Club Meeting September 11, 2018

Contoocook Valley Radio Club, Club Meeting September 11, 2018 Meeting called to order at 7:33pm. President started meeting with a moment of silence for the countrys losses, and the clubs loss of Larry Damour N1PHV. Introductions were made of the ten members present, with an eleventh showing up later. Secretary’s Report was read, no corrections made, so standing as approved. Treasurer’s Report was made, no questions asked, so standing as recorded. Repeater Committee Report was shared; The DR2 is going up on Pat’s Peak soon. Steering Committee Report was read; Short discussion on using Dale Clements QTH for Field Day next year. Pros; Elevation, not having to put up towers, or half the tents, food prep will be easier. Cons; Dale needs help pouring two footings, parking will be limited so have to operate in shifts, less access to public. We will be voting (more…)

Steering Committee Notes

CONTOOCOOK VALLEY RADIO CLUB EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING – 8/28/18 Present: L. Beagle, K. Wilkens, J. Shaw, M. Conroy, S. Jones, D. Clement, M. Clement. Jen noted that Sept. 8th is a Therapy Horse Show in Temple, N.H. All are welcome. Sarah Moore will be assisted by J. Shaw to sell the final quantity of John Moore’s belongings. Assistance is needed. We will allow Sarah to borrow a small tent or two, some tables, etc. A note will be required to hold them responsible for any damage to club property that may occur. A VHF forum will be the topic for the next meeting. Anyone can contribute. Chris, W1RGA, will present a talk on building VHF antennas in October. Dale and Steve will present a “Build Your Own Dipole” for 6 0r 10 meters in November. Info on dipoles for other bands will be made (more…)

August Club Meeting Minutes

CONTOOCOOK VALLEY RADIO CLUB GENERAL MEETING – 8/14/18 There were 11 people present. The minutes of the July 10th General Meeting were presented and accepted. The minutes of the July 24th Executive Board Meeting were presented and accepted. Lindsay reported on work he has done on our website , and his website, for the benefit of the club. The President stated that according to the Constitution, we HAD to elect a Vice President tonight. Therefore, Steve Jones moved, and Barry W. seconded, to substitute a voice vote for the normally used paper ballot for this “special circumstances” election. It was moved, and seconded, to approve Larry Beagle as interim Vice President of the CVRC. It was voted in the affirmative, and approved. Steering Committee Meeting Minutes for 7/24/18

CONTOOCOOK VALLEY RADIO CLUB STEERING COMM. MTG. – 7/24/18 1. The meeting started at 7:00 pm. 2. There were the following present: Mickie, Dale, Steve, Jen, Larry B., Mike, Ken. 3. Noted that we need to contact Steve Chunn, Trustee, about the renewal of the K1BKE call. 4. Barry, NF1O, and Dave P., K1OPQ have agreed to present, on making HF contacts when the band seems dead. 5. Steve Jones will take over the Treasurer’s job for the Aug. 14th meeting. Mickie will be away. 6. The revised Field Day total contact score has been revised up to 8,510 points. This is a great score and compares well with previous years. 7. Whereas the owner of the Field Day field, Fred B., is getting close to where he may no longer be able to mow the field as beautifully as he has in the (more…)


CONTOOCOOK VALLEY RADIO CLUB GENERAL MEETING 5/22/18 1. People present: Mike, Larry, Frank, Jeff, Jen, Pete, Mickie, Dale, Steve 2. There was discussion on how to replace destroyed club tent. ( was 8X8 or 10X10) 3. The tent will be replaced by Pete Jones before Field Day. 4. It was authorized to replace tent to up to $120.00 and up to 10’X10’. 5. Pete will ck. out tents at Rocky’s, Sears, Dick’s, Ocean State Job Lots. 6. For Sept. 5th, Sarah Dustin needs help sorting and selling John Moore’s tools, and etc. Sept. 8th and 9th is actual sale date. 7. Noted that K1BBQ just passed away less than a week ago. 8. Jen gave Steve 20 invitations to Field Day to mail out. That will be done shortly. 9. Henry Weeden was reimbursed $200.00 for a radio he gave to the club. 10. (more…)


CONTOOCOOK VALLEY RADIO CLUB GENERAL MEETING 5/8/18 1. The meeting started at about 7:35 pm. 2. There were 16 people present. 3. Reminder: Field Day will be on June 23rd and 24th. 4. Two new members were introduced to the club. 5. It was noted that the hilltop location on Plazawa Hill, formally owned by Ted Everett, was sold. 6. Noted that May 22nd is the next Steering Comm. Mtg. at Jen’s house, 7:00 pm. 7. ALL BAND CAPTAINS ARE REQUESTED TO BE THERE, AT Jen’s House. 8. June 5th is the next General Meeting. 9. Next: The Formal Presentation by Neil Goodell will begin. The topic is GROUNDING and LIGHTNING PROTECTION. 10. Some of Neil’s most useful comments are as follows: a) One can use the NEC Code, item 250 to comply with their safety recommendations for use in amatuier radio stations. b) (more…)


CONTOOCOOK VALLEY RADIO CLUB GENERAL MEETING 4/10/18 1. Noted: Several new members joined the Club, today. One of which was KC1IGS. 2. There were 25 people present. 3. Noted that the next presentation will be by Neil Goodell, AE1P, on grounding. 4. Steve Jones, N1JHJ, presented a plan for soliciting new information from members on their interests. 5. It was noted by Al Bardwell, NS1O, that there is a need to purchase 6 used computers, at a cost not to exceed $70.00 each, for the proper and reliable linking of all stations at Field Day. Al would like to attempt this purchase. 6. It, therefore, was moved and seconded to pursue this purchase. Motion voted upon, passed and was approved. 7. Steering Committee Minutes for February 27, 2018

CONTOOCOOK VALLEY RADIO CLUB EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING – 2/27/18 The meeting started at 7:16 pm. Present were: Jeff, VP, Jen, President, Mickie, Treasurer, Steve , Secretary and Dale. Distribution of the updated Flea Market flyer was discussed. Fees: $3.00 for admission, $3.00 for grand prize raffle ticket, and the 50/50 raffle proceeds will go to the Scholarship Fund. The grand prize, a Yaesu FT-60 dual band HT has been picked up along with other handouts from HRO, ready to go. We discussed Field Day, and various alternatives to the standard operation we have always used. The sense was that we may want to reduce our effort in some way. Perhaps 3A rather than 4A or one less tower or something else. No final desions will be made hastily. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm. CONTOOCOOK VALLEY RADIO CLUB GENERAL MEETING – 2/13/18 There were 20 people present tonite. Steve Jones gave the General Meeting Report from 1/9/18. The report stood as presented. Mickie gave the Treasurer’s Report. The report stood as presented. There were no reports from the Repeater Committee as Frank and Larry were presenting at another meeting and could not be present. Steve Jones gave the Executive Committee Report of 1/30/18. The report stood as presented. Noted that the next Executive Committee meeting will be at Jen’s house on 2/27/18. All are welcome. The Business Meeting adjourned at 7:49 pm. Pasha Roberts, W1LMT, our presenter, began his presentation on Lightning Detection. General Meeting Minutes January 9, 2018

CONTOOCOOK VALLEY RADIO CLUB GENERAL MEETING 1/9/18 The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm. There were 23 people present. Mickie gave her Treasurer’s Report. She reviewed all transactions, both in and out for the last month or so. All is in good shape. The report stood as reported. Steve Jones gave the Secretary’s report for the 11/28/17 Executive Committee Meeting. The report stood as reported. The Repeater Committee report was given by Larry Beagle. All is well up on the hill. Jeff gave the Program Planning (Events) Committee report. He reviewed those things that he is working on at this time. Pete Stohrer gave us an update of the latest from the ARRL. Of interest was the additional Band Privileges being contemplated for those holding the Technician Class License.
